Music has the power to transport you, and with each passing year, it gets better. Sure, 2016 was the year of Pen Pineapple Apple Pen, but there were many songs that were able to connect to music lovers. As we get closer to 2017, let’s take a look back at some of the best songs of 2016.
Without a doubt, 2016 was the year of the Chainsmokers. No one anticipated that the duo that gave us Selfie was capable of such good music. Closer, featuring Halsey, became an international sensation as soon as it released making people groove worldwide. Topping the Billboard 100 list for many weeks, the song still manages to get everyone’s feet tapping as soon as it’s being played.
2. Cheap Thrills
Called as the new Lean On, Sia’s This Is Acting album had many incredible songs, but this one just outdid the others. Peppy music along with the lyrics that are basically the life of every 20 something person made Cheap Thrills one of the chartbusters of 2016. From road trips to clubs, the song was everywhere and still people never got tired of hearing or dancing to it all the time.
Don’t deny it, you have twerked on this track too. This song of Rihanna featuring Drake got the world tapping to their feet and proving yet again that everything Rihanna says or does will always be music. The song that sparked the striking chemistry between the two artists is still a favourite in parties and clubs making it among the most amazing tracks that 2016 has given us.
4. Cold Water
With his album Purpose being highly appreciated and critically acclaimed last year, Justin Beiber collaborated with many artists given us beautiful songs. Cold Water by Major Lazer featuring Justin Beiber was another chartbuster that was on everybody’s play list. Slow, melodic and meaningful, Cold Water has a soothing effect in your ears whenever it is being played anywhere.
5. Don’t Let Me Down
Hands down, the music of 2016 would have been nothing without the Chainsmokers. Yet another track Don’t Let Me Down featuring Daya became a song you must have heard in every party. The music is vibrant, fresh and made us all want to get on the dance floor and groove.
The Weeknd may not be that famous an artist, but he sure ended the year in style. Starboy, both the album and the song immediately get people to shake a leg. The tune is catchy, the lyrics are hip and the music video is definitely something you should watch. We all have a good song to dance to.
7. Hymn For The Weekend
If you’re still wondering what Coldplay was doing in Mumbai last year, the music video is your answer. Hymn For The Weekend is the third single from Coldplay’s album A Head Full Of Dreams. Apart from the fact that it is shot in India, the music transports you to serenity and calmness, making it a perfect song for road trips or chill Saturday night plans.
8. Pillow Talk
After breaking away from One Direction, all eyes were on Zayn Malik, especially the 1D fans wanting to see what he was going to do as a solo artist. Let’s just say he delivered results nobody could have expected. Pillow Talk was a massive hit as soon as it released making it a perfect slow song for a Sunday afternoon.
