Every once in a while, Bollywood film makers like Karan Johar bless us with movies that are far from reality, but so entertaining that we love to engross ourselves in four hours of them. Karan Johar may not be Steven Speilberg of the Indian cinema, but he’s a priced gem we never want to lose. Movies like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Kal Ho Na Ho, and the latest, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil have a special place in her hearts. More than the movies, we have fallen in love with the characters who have made us laugh. Between the Rahul-Anjali romance, there are some characters we can totally relate to, because in all the madness happening around them, these characters had their shit sorted. Following are the most relatable Karan Johar movie characters –
1. Poo
Anyone who has seen Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is an ardent follower of the Poo fandom. Sure, Shahrukh Khan and Kajol totally stole the limelight from most characters but Poo managed to stand out in every scene, making her own mark and getting our attention. We could relate to her because we’re all her somehow. Poo was a self-obsessed woman who never let anyone fuck with her vibes. She had her priorities set right. She didn’t care what was happening around, and this badassery is something we all have. We’re all Poo, in our very own way.
2. Young Laddoo
Hrithik Roshan’s Laddoo may have all the abs, the good looks and the perfect dance moves, but it was Young Laddoo we related to better. Grown up Laddoo was fine too, but we all prefer Young Laddoo because of his priorities in life. Food was all that mattered to him, much like all of us. The whole family was going crazy over Rahul’s arrival, his wedding plans, anniversary celebrations and other parampara issues, but that boy only cared about laddoos and burgers. He was hella relatable as that’s how we’ve all become. Food first, everything else later.
3. Sweetu
Karan Johar didn’t direct this movie, but we’ll always consider Kal Ho Naa Ho as a Karan Johar movie as he has written and produced the movie. The story line may revolve around Aman-Naina-Rohit, the love triangle that made the crux of this modern day epic, but it was Sweetu we all related to better. Aman’s charm, Naina’s beauty and Rohit’s boy next door characters were not as much relatable as Sweetu’s, another character who loved food more than anything else. We could also relate to her because she was mostly ignored by her friends, which is the story of all our lives.
4. Sam
Sure, Sexy Sam went from a carefree character to a serious one as the climax approached, but the carefree Sam was hella relatable. We could totally see ourselves like him when we grow old, not caring about what others have to say about us, embarrassing our children and still not giving up our ways. Sexy Sam had everything sorted for him. He threw shade around people who judged him, didn’t like to get too attached or talk about his feelings (the first half of the movie), and carried on with his life full of beautiful women with no strings attached.
5. Sardar Kid
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a cult classic. Nobody can deny that. Rahul and Anjali became a household name as soon as this movie was released. Growing up we realized how little Anjali is a total psycho, who is hellbent on ruining grown up Anjali’s life. But it’s not them we could relate to. It’s the unnamed Sardar Kid who survived all this chaos. He just liked minding his own business unlike others, totally into his own world. He would just express himself when he wanted to, and was totally judging everyone else when they did their thing. Sardar Kid, you’re a beauty.
