India had a historic run at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, securing its best-ever medal haul with a total of 19 medals—5 gold, 8 silver, and 6 bronze. This performance far exceeded the previous record, with standout moments like Avani Lekhara becoming the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic gold in shooting and Sumit Antil’s world-record javelin throw.

The 2024 Paralympics started on August 28, 2024, and will run until September 8, 2024. For the next two weeks, the world’s top para-athletes will compete in 22 sports. India will be participating in a total of 12 sports.
